Hey guys! I could not be more excited for the "Angels Among Us" 5K. Most of you know my story, and therefore you know how grateful I am to God, my family, friends and DUKE! My purpose in building this team is to raise money and support for Duke's ongoing research against brain cancer. We will have a lot of fun along the way, so get excited! :]
This team is in loving memory of Ian & Kurt Calhoon and Tim McNeil. These have been my guardian angels, while my family and friends have also been my angels on earth!
Tim McNeill passed away April 17, 2010, but fought brain cancer like a champ. He was a runner and husband of Cindy McNeil. Cindy and my mom grew up as childhood best friends and when I was diagnosed she was a wealth of information and support for my family. Tim and Cindy are truly "angels among us"!
Ian was a young man of joy and passion. This summer he left us too soon, but growing up together was such a blessing. His overflowing love for others has stayed with me, as many of his loved ones carry his exuberant spirit in their hearts. The boy had a charm and a smile like no other. I was lucky to come home and spend the summer with his father Kurt, as we shared a love of ice cream and a hatred of hospital trips! "Uncle Kurt" taught me how to have strength and a sense of humor during tough times, and though he passed this September, no doubt he is still with me today.
I could keep writing on and on about everyone who has helped me, and I still wouldn't be finished. I want to thank all of you and as a part of this group I'd like for you to join me in this cause. Research for brain cancer is vital to the development of new treatments at Duke, which means new HOPE for more people like me :]
THANKS YA'LL :]
