James W. Brooks, September 7, 1969 - February 14, 2011

A loving & devoted son, brother, husband, and father who faced his 2.5 year battle with brain cancer with fierce determination, strength, and courage.  We miss him dearly!!

It goes without saying that James was an amazing person.  He will undoubtedly be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and beautiful smile.  His knack for storytelling was remarkable --he had an unbelievable memory.  His passion for life was infectious.  He was always ready for the next great adventure.......moving to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, after college in 1992 not knowing a single soul there, then leaving this Earth with many meaningful friendships, backpacking throughout Southeast Asia all by himself, starting up his own solar energy company, and then his own construction company.

He loved being active and exploring the outdoors...hiking fourteeners, kayaking, rock climbing, skydiving, mountain biking, sailing in the British Virgin Islands and skiing sand dunes and the rugged backcountry terrain.  James was a phenomenal skier.  He would effortlessly ski down moguls and the tightest of tree runs.  He was his happiest on the ski mountain, especially on a powder day.

My husband, Mike, and I will be running in the Angels Among Us 5K to pay tribute to my brother, James, and to help find a cure for brain cancer.  At the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, they understand how overwhelming a brain tumor diagnosis can be and they are passionate about understanding the "how" and "why" of brain tumors. But they need our support to push their research forward at a faster rate to find a cure.

Help me find a cure! Join with me so no other family must endure the pain of having a loved one diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Thank you for your support. Your gift puts us closer to the goal of finding a cure for brain tumors.
