In Memory of Michelle Rubino

It is with deepest sadness and a very heavy heart that I have to inform all of our "Angel" friends that my beautiful daughter Michelle lost the battle to a GBM on June 16th.

She fought bravely for over five years and did very well until the summer of 2015 when she developed a dropped metastasis to her cervical spine.  Michelle did 11 more rounds of radiation at Duke and back on chemo and treatment near our home in NJ.  This past spring she started to decline and on our April trip to Duke for the walk and her MRI, Dr. Peters informed us that she had developed leptomeningeal disease.  Her chemo was changed again but she continued to decline.  Michelle relentlessly continued to fight and was working full time until mid May.  On our June 7th visit to Duke her MRI showed progression of the leptomeningeal disease and was told by Dr. Peters there was nothing more to do.  It was difficult for us to hear and for Dr. Peters and Christine NP to tell us as we had developed a deep bond over the years.  By this time she was suffering greatly and wasn't able to walk on her own.  When we arrived home she was admitted to our local hospital where they also discovered she had a perforated colon and had emergency surgery.  Unfortunately within 9 days of being home from Duke she went to rest peacefully in the light of heaven.

It has been an unimaginably difficult time for our family but we are still committed to helping Duke raise funds to help others.  Michelle would want that!!  Many family and friends donated to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center in lieu of flowers at our family's request.  We are most grateful for everyones support.

We hope to honor Michelle's memory and her amazing bravery by exceeding the amount we raised in the past.

Our family's wish is to have you all keep our "Angel" Michelle in your prayers.

With gratitude and love to all, The Rubino family
